Listening Blog #8

Listening Blog #8      For my blog this week I choose the song "Hotel California" by The Eagles. I had a hard time deciding between songs this week but I eventually settled on this one because I have loved this song for a while and it definitely has Halloween vibes. I really like the creepy aspect and the mystery this song conveys. It is also a very iconic song. I even have a t-shirt with the first line of the song on it. This song is cool because it has a story that it tells through the song. You are constantly trying to figure out what is going on in this hotel and what is happening to these people. I also really like the guitar solos in this song. It does make the song pretty long and while listening to it three times at six minutes apiece, it got a bit boring after a while. But, I still found myself enjoying the guitar and the lyrics as they are timeless and help to convey the feelings of mystery and suspense even after the third time. Overall, I really enjoy th...

Listening Blog #7      For my blog this week I chose the song "Like a Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan. This song was a little confusing. I didn't totally understand the plot that the song was trying to convey. I did really like the overall sound of the song. I thought that the music was really good and I especially loved the use of one of the most underrated instruments, the harmonica (Second in my opinion to the accordion). I did find myself enjoying listening to this song even though the lyrics were pretty nonsensical to me. I really like Bob Dylan's voice and I find him really fun to listen to his specific style. This song is defiantly not my favorite song of his, but I did enjoy listening to it. I ended up looking up an explanation of the phrase "like a rolling stone" and it helped me to better understand the meaning behind this song. It said that this phrase means someone who never really settles down anywhere and I feel that this song really does convey t...

Listening Blog #6

Listening Blog #6 For my blog this week I choose a Beatles song that was not on the list. I choose the song "When I'm Sixty Four." This is my favorite Beatles song so I figured I should enjoy listening to it. This song is my favorite because it is super upbeat and has a really cute message. It asks the question of if the singer's love will still love him when he's old. It goes through the different adventures that they could have if she will still love him. I love this message of loving someone into old age. I also love the music of this song. It is super happy and has a great beat. This song is one that I feel defines the kind of relationship I want to have when I am older. I love listening to this song and imagining my future marriage and living out my life with someone. It makes me so happy and optimistic to think about and that is one of the reasons I enjoy this song so much. I feel like it is also one of the Beatle's more upbeat songs and I really enjoy ...

Listening Blog #5 For this week I choose the song "Sh-boom" by The Chords. This is one of the few songs from this class that I had listened to previous to being in this class. This is actually one of my all-time favorite songs. I originally heard it as a kid watching the movie Cars. I grew watching Cars a few times a week and it remains my favorite movie to this day. Needless to say, when I hear this song I am automatically taken back to my childhood, enjoying watching Cars. Honestly, listening to this song three times was a lot more enjoyable than some songs I have listened to on other blogs. This song has such a cool old feel to it, not only does it feel old as in when it was made, but it feels old to me because it is one of the songs of my childhood. I can imagine the characters of the movie dancing down the new road and see the scenes that this song plays over. It is interesting how music has the ability to take us to other times in the world and to other times in our ow...

Listening Blog #4     The song I chose for this week was "In the Mood" by Glenn Miller. I am usually not a big fan of songs without lyrics but I actually really enjoyed this one. I thought that the tempo and the melody were very upbeat and fun to listen to. This song definitely had an old feel to it and made me think of the early 20th century. I could imagine this song being played in a diner or a dance hall with people dancing along to it. It sounded like something that would be played in an old black and white movie to me. I really liked the use of the brass section in this piece. I especially liked the sections where it felt like the brass would break off and do its own little part. I don't think it sounded improvisational but it kinda had that feeling when the trumpet (I think it is a trumpet haha) would have a solo part. I overall really enjoyed this song. My roommate even came in dancing when I was listening to it so I think it's easy to say that it is a univer...
