Listening Blog #3
This week I picked the song "How Deep is the Ocean" written by Irving Berlin, sung by Bing Crosby. I actually really enjoyed this song after I had listened to it more than once. It wasn't my favorite the first time but it grew on me for sure! It actually really reminded me of the song "Beyond the Sea" from Finding Nemo. That is one of my favorite songs from a movie and the styles are very similar. While that one is much happier and upbeat sounding, I thought that the singing styles were very similar and I really enjoyed it. I really love Bing Crosby's voice and his style. It's very smooth and relaxing and I always enjoy listening to him. I also think the lyrics of this song are very sweet. I love romantic songs and the lyrics of this one are definitely that. I think this style of music also lends itself well to more romantic songs as it has a slower smoother style than things like jazz or ragtime. I think that is why a lot of songs of this style are more romantic and well-loved by people.
I also enjoy his voice, I feel like Irving Berlin picked the perfect vocalist for his lyrics. Crosby brings such a romantic and passionate voice to the song that if someone sang in a different style it just wouldn't be as powerful. This song makes you feel the love that he is singing and long for something as special. I'm glad I got to comment on your blog because I really liked this song too!
ReplyDeleteI chose that exact same song and I agree with how you said Bing Crosby has a great and soothing voice. I sure love how you related the song to another you like. Also when you mentioned you loved love songs and that it felt like a love song to you.
